Fast Tracking is an exciting new series for beginner string players of all ages. Fast Tracking Fiddle and Fast Tracking Viola are the product of many years experience of a very remarkable teacher, Mary Goodman. Mary realised that every child can concentrate intensely on one thing for a very short time - so she broke down every technique to its essentials and taught her pupils to work in concentrated short bursts on each exercise. The fact that a beginner concentrates absolutely for a minute or two at most and that unfamiliar movements and posture can be sustained for an equally brief time at first is utilised by introducing or developing several different elements of technique in each lesson. This means that every pupil is a fast tracker on his or her own terms - regardless of age or ability.

The 90 minute video shows Mary Goodman teaching beginner violinists some of the techniques & exercises used in her method. Included are extracts from the very first lessons of Madeleine (age 5) and Brian (age nearly 50). Madeleine's progress is followed for 13 months showing the development of a sound basic technique. Hae-Yun (age 8) is taught some more advanced terchniques, including vibrato, changing position & spiccato bowing. She is also shown having her very first viola lesson.

Correct left hand position is achieved by the use of all 4 fingers from the outset and Mary's structured approach to bowing develops good tone quality and enables the playing of recognizeable tunes at a very early stage - the best encouragement possible for young beginners.

Within a few weeks one of the 3 sets of progressive pieces written to accompany the tutor can be chosen and real pieces with piano accompaniment can be played.

The writers of the pieces are all upper string players and each set of pieces has been carefully co-ordinated with Mary's tutors.
