TWO FLUTES

PPF020 SONATA No. 1 IN E MINOR attributed to G. F. HANDEL

Adagio: Allegro: Affettuoso: Allegro assai

The first of a set of 6 sonatas published in Paris by Mr. Boivin for ‘FLUTES TRANVERSIÉRE Sans Basse PAR Mr. HANDEL’. These sonatas are not listed by Grove and so far no manuscript has been found. They are almost certainly not by Handel and published using his name to ‘cash in’ on Handel’s popularity. Nevertheless, they are very well written for players of equal ability and it is a pity not to be able to put the real composer’s name to them.

Further research and a comparison with the works of Michel Blavet also published by Mr. Boivin would indicate that he was most likely to be the real composer.
